The successful hotel chain aims to double its European hotel network over the next few years
29 September 2025 – CityHub, the award-winning urban lifestyle hotel brand, has today announced the appointment of Remco Gerritsen as CEO as it strengthens its leadership team and prepares for its next significant phase of growth. Building on successful openings in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Copenhagen, and Reykjavik, the brand plans to double its network of hotels across major European cities over the next few years.
Founded a decade ago by university friends Sem Schuurkes and Pieter van Tilburg, CityHub set out to redefine the hotel experience for modern travellers through its signature luxury pod-style Hubs. Each property combines the privacy of a personal, modular space with cutting-edge technology, community-focused environments, and sustainable design. This approach has fuelled the brand’s rapid growth and positioned it at the forefront of the next generation of hospitality.
As CityHub embarks on this ambitious new chapter, the company has appointed Remco Gerritsen as CEO. Schuurkes and van Tilburg will step back from their dual CEO roles and move into strategic board-level positions, where they will remain closely involved in guiding long-term vision, brand authenticity, and international growth.
Gerritsen brings more than 25 years of international hospitality leadership, spanning hotel operations, development, and brand expansion in some of the biggest projects across Europe and Asia. Most recently, he served as Director of Hotels at International Hotel Capital Partners (IHCP), overseeing landmark developments including Renaissance Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, Moxy Amsterdam Schiphol, the dual-brand Marriott in The Hague, and Hilton Garden Inn Leiden. Some of Gerritsen’s earlier roles include senior leadership positions at PPHE Hotels, Azimut Hotels, IHG Hotels, NH Hotels, and Maritim Hotels.
Sem Schuurkes, Co-Founder of CityHub, commented: “When we launched CityHub, our goal was to offer today’s travellers a new and better way to stay with a hotel that was more affordable and sustainable, without compromising on quality. Seeing that idea grow into a brand which resonates in international markets has been incredible, and now, with strong foundations in place, this is the right time to bring in new leadership to accelerate growth further. From the board, Pieter and I will continue to safeguard the quality and authenticity that makes CityHub what it is today.”
Remco Gerritsen, CEO of CityHub said: “What Sem and Pieter have created is impressive, and I look forward to building on their vision as we expand CityHub further. Guests today expect more than a bed – they want authentic connections to the city, seamless technology, and a responsible approach to travel. CityHub has captured that perfectly, and the potential to scale the concept globally is enormous. It is already a trailblazer in the urban hotel space, and my priority will be driving expansion into new markets while ensuring every property reflects the brand’s commitment to smart design, sustainability, and meaningful guest experiences.”
